This is an unpaid position. Candidates who wish to obtain college credit should provide Team President/Assistant Coach with all necessary paperwork at least 1 week prior to start date. Job Description We're looking for energetic, enthusiastic volunteer interns to assist our Tier II junior
hockey team, the Maryland Black Bears, with our hockey operations and video analytics for the 2024-25
season. This internship will provide those who desire a career in sports and statistics with an opportunity to learn the inner workings of a hockey operations office. Interns will gain valuable career experience as well as enjoying networking opportunities in the process. The ideal candidate is someone with strong time management skills and attention to detail as well as a "team first" mentality.
General Duties - Set up video feed on game day and live-tag game with coded events in real-time.
- Provide immediate video replays, clips, and analysis to coaching staff after each period.
- Assist coaching staff in challenging reviewable plays in-game.
- Assist in making adjustments to game strategies based on in-game video insights.
Opponent Scouting - Identify key tendencies, strategies, strengths, and weaknesses of opposing teams and players.
- Collaborate with coaching staff to create and prepare pre-game scouting reports for each opponent.
- Present scouting reports to coaching staff and team.
Video and Statistical Analysis - Organize and catalog video clips by game, period, situation/event, and player.
- Consolidate and analyze video clips and create presentations for individual and team video sessions.
- Prepare and provide full team and individual performance reports (Stat Packs) from game video.
- Create and maintain a master goalie shot chart for the season.
Player Development - Analyze player techniques, positioning, decision-making, and overall gameplay.
- Collaborate with coaches to create development plans based on video analysis.
Minimum Qualifications - At least 18 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must maintain a professional appearance at all times
- Ability to attend specifically scheduled home games as well as any pre-game meetings (includes nights, weekends, and holidays)
- Must have reliable transportation
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Must be able to walk up and down stairs, and on the ice surface
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications - College/university student who is seeking practicum or internship credit or someone who seeks more volunteering experience
- Strong interest in hockey operations and sports statistics or analytics
- Prior experience working, playing, or volunteering in hockey
About Us The Maryland Black Bears are a Tier 2 Junior Hockey Team based in Odenton, MD. Our players, aged 16-21, are amateur players from the United States and Canada who seek to increase their skills and maturity to play next at the NCAA Collegiate D1 level. The team competes in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). We host 9 teams in our division over 14 home game weekends (28 games) from September through April.
