About Our School

Opened in 2022, Vertex Partnership Academies is a virtues-based, International Baccalaureate (IB) public charter high school located in the Soundview section of the Bronx. We seek to develop virtuous high school graduates who have acquired the habits, knowledge, and sense of personal agency necessary to lead self-determined, purposeful lives of American and global citizenship. Vertex Partnership Academies requires the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme for freshmen and sophomores and is proud to be an International Baccalaureate World School authorized to offer each of the Diploma and Careers Programmes in the junior and senior years. 

With this prestigious authorization, Vertex Partnership Academies is one of literally a handful of high schools worldwide that is an IB For All School offering three IB programs, meaning that 100% of Vertex students are required to pursue the IB Middle Years program in ninth and tenth grade, and then choose between the IB Diploma or IB Careers pathway for their 11th and 12th-grade years.

Position Overview:

Professional Development

  • Attend Vertex Professional Development communicated by the Summer School Director
  • Attend mandatory NSSI Teacher Institute and complete any necessary pre-work: 
    • June 25th-June 27th
  • Attend 1x a week Professional Development (PD) and be ready for class:
    • Mondays: July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29,(1:30PM - 2:30PM ET)
  • Partner teachers commit to actively modeling the following commitments and behaviors during virtual professional development sessions, including:
    • Having cameras on during PD sessions. 
    • Participating actively in ALL sessions (including break out rooms).

Daily Teaching

  • Engage in deep intellectual preparation and student work analysis through independent preparation and attending virtual professional development sessions with NSSI to drive differentiated instruction
  • Ensure every student feels connected, celebrated, and challenged to think deeply and participate during each class
  • Ensure that instruction is aligned to the Regents assessment that students will take in August 2024
  • Engage in daily intellectual preparation and student work analysis to have clarity around: 1) exemplar student work & discussion, 2) potential misconceptions, and 3) questions and teacher moves to address misconceptions and push deeper thinking.
  • Leverage the Mentor Teachers GoogleSlide deck and Daily Overview Lessons to create and edit a daily lesson in math or ELA/humanities to meet the needs of your class.
  • Ensure student workbooks are prepared for students at the start of each lesson, either digitally or printed copies. Students who need scaffolded student workbooks should be provided those.
  • Teach strong, discourse-based lessons aligned with NSSI’s curriculum and instructional overviews.
  • Study and give feedback on 100% of student work each day.
  • Complete all deliverables and tasks within whatever Learning Management Platform your school uses. Includes but not limited to posting student work, tracking grades, inputting attendance, etc.
  • Take Attendance daily. 
  • Call / text / email students & parents daily with the goal of reaching every family weekly over the summer.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Attending any school or district-led meetings 
  • Completing 3 end-of-day Teacher Institute feedback surveys (5-10 mins), and one end-of-program feedback survey (max 15-20 mins)
  • Grading and inputting pre/post assessment data to NSSI
  • Reading weekly emails from NSSI 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field 
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching high school students
  • Strong knowledge of current educational trends and best practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
