Plant Operator II Hiring Range: $25.85- $37.73Hourly; DOQ. Plant Operator I Hiring Range: $23.44- $34.22/Hourly; DOQ. SPECIAL NOTE: All levels of experience and certification are being considered to fill this position. Those without required experience, certification, and CDL may be considered as a Plant Operator I/Trainee and will be required to obtain Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification and Commercial Driver's License Class B with tanker endorsement at a minimum of six (6) months but to up to one (1) year of hire. May be subject to call back. May require the use of a respirator. Primary assignment will be in Wastewater Treatment.
$1.00/hr. stipend upon obtaining Commerical Driver License Class B with Tanker Endorsement.
The ideal candidate will be trustworthy, organized, reliable, and self-motivated. They must be a team player who has the ability to multi-task, accept direction well, and be flexible. They should have an adequate experience to be able to work effectively at any one of our three (3) Wastewater Treatment facilities. PLANT OPERATOR III JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs difficult technical work monitoring and troubleshooting the functionality and efficiencies of the Wastewater process, performing preventative maintenance and repairs to assigned area and equipment, collecting samples, and performing routine testing, maintaining files and records, and related work as assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Utility Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED and considerable experience in treatment plant operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification at hire.
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License Class B with a Tanker Endorsement at hire.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Collects samples at various stages of the treatment process for compliance and process control monitoring.
Manages sludge produced from the filtering process; operates belt filter press including pumping concentrated sludge to press with polymer addition for solids separation; disposes of biosolids to landfill.
Performs and maintains proper disinfection through ultraviolet (UV) and chlorination processes.
Performs preventative maintenance and general maintenance of various pumps, motors, valves, blowers, and compressors, performs daily maintenance to include cleaning and manual backwashes of filters, cleaning basins, clarifiers, channels, UV disinfection system, and plant process and building areas.
Operates, monitors, and adjusts treatment plant process equipment to ensure treated water meets State and Federal quality standards.
Manages effluent storage ponds, vadose wells, and reclaimed water distribution systems to balance the reuse water demands.
Identifies needs and makes required treatment and operational adjustments to the treatment processes to meet quality standards; prepares and maintains work records, compliance reports, and other documents.
Performs daily visual plant inspections of facilities, equipment, machinery, and related systems to ensure proper operation and detect equipment failures; reads meters, gauges, and instruments entering readings into a computer database.
Operates and maintains motor vehicles or other work-related equipment requiring a valid driver's license.
Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for the position.
Forklift Training
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment, and methods used in wastewater/water treatment and pumping operations; thorough knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of a treatment plant; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with treatment plant operations and related activities and of necessary safety precautions; thorough knowledge of pumps, motors, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems; thorough knowledge in the use of various chemicals used in water treatment; thorough knowledge of proper water collection and sampling techniques.
Skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment.

Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Utility Supervisor.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification at hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Collects samples including bacteriological, chlorine, and turbidity, throughout plant process locations to determine compliance and optimum treatment performance; observes and records daily performance and efficiency of equipment on plant rounds; performs treatment of raw water for efficient and compliant treatment.

Performs operator duties in the utility plant to include, operating and maintaining equipment, and making appropriate adjustments.

Maintains daily log and plant records for compliance; performs data entry into electronic logs; prepares daily and monthly reports to management; maintains plant inspection records for self-monitoring reports to be submitted to state regulatory agency; plans and coordinates projects; maintains required licenses and required ADEQ certifications; attends monthly training.
