Summary:

This position is for students that are currently enrolled in an accredited nurse program and have completed one clinical semester. This position works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Nurse Tech performs and assists with the individual activities of daily living as well as treatments for patient care under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse according to established policies, procedures and guidelines.

Responsibilities:

(50%)* Under the direction of the nurse, prioritizes and organizes care of assigned patients, performing basic nurse?s aide skills as outlined in orientation, competencies, policy and procedures.

(25%)* Documents on patient?s chart, any treatments and pertinent observations. Provides report to team on tasks completed.

(25%)* Maintains a clean, safe and orderly unit.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supports the mission, goals, policies and standards of nursing.

Medical Center and unit policies and work rules are recognized, supported and implemented.

Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures Emergency care/safety: Performs according to procedure in all medical center emergency situations.

Provides and ensures safe and secure environment for the patient.

Provides excellent customer service: Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy at all times.

In the performance of the regular job duties, it is appropriate for this job code to have access to the medication room and supply room for the purpose of stocking.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Certifications and Licensures:

Credential: BLS: Basic Life Support

Equivalent Experience: Within 3 months of hire or transfer into position.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis. Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0?33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
