Job Description

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, directs all activities related to the JCSU Choir. Teaches choral music courses in the music department curriculum.

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, advise, recruit, train, and lead choir members; manage the choir budget, and schedule; work with Institutional Advancement and Student Affairs to showcase the choir at events and manage public relations; partner with Alumni Affairs to maintain a positive relationship with prior JCSU choir members as needed. Reports to the Chair of the Department. Additional duties may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct and provide artistic direction for the university’s main choir and additional choral ensembles
  • Plan, organize, and execute a comprehensive choral program, including concerts, recruitment and performance tours, the annual Vespers Service, and other campus events
  • Develop and implement curriculum for choral music courses, ensuring alignment with departmental and university standards, and the latest educational standards and practices in music education
  • In partnership with the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, recruit and mentor students, enhancing the growth and development of the choral program
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate choral activities with and into other university programs and events
  • Manage the choral program budget, including scholarships and fundraising efforts; and, allocation of resources for music, materials, and travel
  • Engage in community outreach to enhance the visibility and impact of the university’s choral activities
  • Stay current with choral music trends and pedagogy to continually enrich the program’s offerings
Qualifications

Master’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field required; doctoral degree preferred. At least five years of choral conducting and music education experience at the high school level required; collegiate level experience preferred. Proven ability to lead and inspire students in a diverse and collaborative environment. Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Experience in program development, assessment/evaluation, budget management, and fundraising. Commitment to promoting inclusivity and diversity within the choral program.
